An important part of job searching is to be able to communicate not only your skills but who you are. It's just like marketing. In marketing, you create a message or a hook if you will. Branding in marketing and advertising target a perception of value telling you why you should like their product. It's the same for personal branding. It's a message that tells everyone who you are and why you do what you do, and then how you got to where you are. Introducing yourself with Why makes you more memorable to Employers who are interviewing multiple candidates and is a great way to make yourself unique and stand out from the crowd.
Once you have your personal branding created, it is used in multiple ways:
1- In your Professional Summary on your Resume
2- Your Elevator Pitch
3- Your introduction in Cover Letters
4- Guidance for social media postings
It sounds complicated, but it's easier to create than one might think. What makes it difficult is that it does take some introspection. You start by creating a list of adjectives about yourself. It can be hard to describe yourself. Assessments can help with this, which is a service Career Parkway can provide. Once you have the list created, answer these three questions:
1-What is your ultimate goal?
2-What are you passionate about?
3-What motivates you every day?
Answer these three questions and with your adjectives write a paragraph addressing each point. This ultimately becomes your personal brand.
